Letter to the Editor in the Transcript

In this week’s  (2-20-2008) Susquehanna County Transcript, there was an interesting Letter to the Editor from a resident of Our Fair County.  The Letter primarily deals with economic development, notes some lost opportunities, several concerns, a few questions and more, all couched in some pretty dry humor.

Although SusqcoBlog.com is not in the business of selling newspapers, this writer believes it would be worth your while to read this Letter to the Editor.  The letter writer “gets it” as I suspect a large percentage of the readers of this Blog and others do as well.

 Your thoughts?

The letter writer’s opinions as to public financed or subsidized employment is right on the mark. Creating more ways to spend more tax dollars is not economic stimulus. Making government more efficient with current dollars(or less)is an honorable undertaking and should be encouraged. The letter writer talks of Justin Taylor and his departure as being financially motivated, I believe it was political.Does it not make sense that if it was financial that the department would have been removed completely and the current setup would have been undertaken immediately? If memory serves me , Did not the incoming majority (Loomis and Kelly) vote 2-1 over Warren to terminate Taylor and appoint someone else to the position? Those actions only shifted people. Based on what seems to be going on in Carbondale under Mayor Justin Taylor, what a bonehead action it was.Politics is the point here.It seems that comes up too many times in Susquehanna County government. The idea seems to be who is involved or who has the idea as opposed to if it is a good one or not.Based on the last few Commissioner and Salary board meetings, Is it still going on? For the sake of our county I hope not!

Ah yes, it always is about another county doing our economic work, and it always is about bringing in outside corporations. How about also enhancing what already is here: our fine businesses, and our farmland. How about concentrating on what already is here. Why do we need somebody coming in under an Enterprise Zone, and not paying the taxes that the rest of us are paying? Look within the county first, and use the fine resources already here. Have faith in our county’s folks.
